Vacation Savings Fund – Status of 2019 Checks

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT-BUSINESS MANAGER, MR. SWEENEY ~

If you are not a member who worked last year under a contract that includes vacation savings, you can disregard this message.

Replacement checks, dated today, are being mailed today.

As I notified you last night (2/7/2019 via robocall, text  or email), the Fund Office determined yesterday that out of more than 8,000 checks that were mailed from the benefit fund, not a single one had been cashed, which can only mean that the Post Office has misplaced all of the originally mailed checks. They’ve repeatedly told us that the checks went out last week, but your patience has run out, and so has mine. The Officers and I are unwilling to wait any longer without taking action to get you your money as soon as possible.

I have directed the Fund Office to print replacement checks, and they have completed that process. They are working at this moment to find the fastest and most secure way to get these checks to you, and we will send these checks out before the end of the day today.

The replacement checks are each accompanied by a letter from me, which explains a little more about the process we’ve gone through. This will help you identify the replacement check from the originally mailed check, in the event that the original check arrives at some point.

This next part is important – we have placed a “stop payment” on all the original checks, which were mailed from our Fund Office on January 28. If you do receive one of these checks, please shred it and dispose of it. These checks will no longer be redeemable, so please do not attempt to cash it.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding during this process. In the 50 years that we have mailed vacation savings checks, we have never encountered complications like this, and we will work to ensure that we never do again.

We will continue our work to determine what happened to the original checks and to hold the post office responsible in any way that we can, but our first priority has been to get you your money without any additional delay. We will keep you posted on any further developments.
